Vicki Owen: East Meets West

More Info >

“In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” Albert Camus

A native of Tulsa, Okla. Ms. Owen studied art at the University of Tulsa, University of Texas at Arlington, and The Belles Artes in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and she spent a semester in Italy. In addition, she has traveled extensively in Central and South America and Europe, adding to her studies.

Ms. Owen works with oils, pastels, and encaustics, and her work is characterized by her use of brilliant colors, blending techniques, and rich textural surfaces. Her subjects range from architectural to sheer whimsy.

Vicki OwenMs. Owen says:

“Growing up I found myself mesmerized by the curtains in my room billowing in the breeze and converging with the sunlight and shadows. Each time I recall those moments I envision works painted by Andrew Wyeth and Jan Vermeer, their ability to create quietness and serenity or vibrancy with their use of light. With J.M.W. Turner’s use of light a question of mystery in the atmosphere is present and intriguing. Within my work my choice of colors, blending and composition brings depth and a feeling to move deeper into my soul to rediscover the pure emotion and unbearable beauty of those moments.”

Join us in the Welcome Center Gallery to experience Ms. Owen's work through December 13. For more information about the artist, please visit https://www.vickiowenart.com/
