A Lunchtime Lecture by Owen Curtsinger

Join local art teacher and amateur naturalist Owen Curtsinger as he discusses his process of learning about local plants and animals through an artistic lens. Owen's curiosity about the ecology of Texas has led him to explore the his surroundings through illustrating them with pencil, pen, and watercolor. He has researched, written, and illustrated two zine publications, "Ecoregions of Texas" and "Rare Fauna of Texas," that explore various ecosystems of Texas and the endangered species that inhabit them. In this online lecture, Owen will walk us through his process of documenting, illustrating, and researching the world around him, as well as speak to the value of slowing down and looking at something with the eyes of an artist, no matter how much skill one has for the arts. His work can be found on www.owencurtsinger.com.

About Research Lecture Series

The BRIT Lecture Series is designed to create community wide conversation about a diverse range of important and rapidly developing topics. Our Lecture Series is made up of Lunchtime Lectures and Research Seminars. Lunchtime Lectures take place the first Tuesday of each month, February – July and September – November, from noon - 1pm in the BRIT Commons (**Now held virtually until further notice***). Research Seminars take place periodically throughout the year and are scheduled based on the availability of our in-house and visiting researchers.
