Botany School: Spring Semester
Learn all about basic botany and plant identification in this fast-paced, 5-session evening course. Students will tackle the specific terminology and techniques used by the pros and forever change the way they look at plants! Topics covered include the value of botany, how to use an identification key, plant morphology, and important plant families. Classes will focus on seasonal local flora but provide students with skills that can be used no matter where they travel, connecting them to the places they visit and habitats they encounter. Sessions will be held in the evening, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, and will include both lecture and hands-on investigation.
Instructors: Brooke Best, PhD, is trained as a plant ecologist and botany educator. She currently serves as the Director of Research Programs at FWBG | BRIT where she manages the comings and goings of daily life within the Research Department. / Tiana Rehman, MS, serves as the Herbarium Collections Manager, entrusted with the preservation and growth of the BRIT Herbarium. She is an active field botanist and contributes to floristics projects locally and internationally. / Jessica Lane. MS, is an herbarium assistant in the Philecology Herbarium at FWBG|BRIT. She learns and teaches about plants every day while working with the plant specimens in the collection.
