Identifying Birds in Your Garden

Birds and gardens make a natural pairing. Join us for an easy 1 ½-mile walk to learn to identify, by sight and voice, various species of birds that call the Fort Worth Botanic Garden home. Many of these same species can be found in your residential landscape, especially if you provide plants that produce inviting habitats for wildlife. We’ll walk the Fuller Garden and the wilder spaces around the Texas Native Forest Boardwalk in search of year-round resident and migratory bird species. Bringing along a pair of binoculars will enhance your experience but are not required.
Instructor: Suzanne Tuttle is a plant ecologist who retired in 2016 as Manager of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge after a 23-year career at the park. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from UT Arlington and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Horticulture from Tarrant County Junior College (now TCC). She has taught training classes for various chapters of the Texas Master Naturalist program since 1999 and has served on the Native Landscape Certification Program Steering Committee for the Native Plant Society of Texas. She currently serves on the boards of directors for the Fort Worth Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas and the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center in Combine, TX.
