About the Position

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden | Botanical Research Institute of Texas (FWBG|BRIT) seeks a Part-Time Safety Coordinator

FWBG|BRIT seeks a PT Safety Coordinator to enhance the organization’s safety culture and ensure the organization grows a robust safety program. They will become familiar with all aspects of operations to identify opportunities for employee safety training on applicable safety rules and standards. The Safety Coordinator will perform and track accident and incident investigations, do regular work area safety inspections in buildings and across the campus and document findings, track activity on safety issues, manage the workers compensation process, assist with policy writing, and ensure files are maintained to Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA standards. 

Primary Responsibilities

The PT Safety Coordinator will be responsible for: Keeping up to date on industry safety standards, recommendations, and regulations; identifying and acting on opportunities to minimize workplace incidents and accidents; performing safety inspections and audits; drafting risk and safety related policies; performing incident investigations; coordinating the Workers Compensation process; maintaining OSHA required records and doing OSHA reporting; promoting safety policies and procedures; participating in new employee orientations; maintaining knowledge of commercial insurance policies.

Job duties require the ability to travel throughout the campus on foot and via golf car to conduct safety inspections which can include walking over uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working outdoors in Texas weather conditions. Required Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Health, or, applicable occupational risk and safety certifications combined with 2 years’ work experience.

Preferred certification includes: SSH, CSHO, ASC, CSP, and OSHA 30. Applicant must demonstrate an understanding of organizational policies and best practices of risk and safety management and must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others is required to be successful in this position. Applicant must have good written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills with proven ability to track and follow up on tasks.
