Opportunities Await as the Garden Welcomes a New Year

The year 2022 has arrived, bringing with it 12 months full of promise. No doubt the year will bring its own challenges, but let’s take a moment to focus on the potential of the year to come. What adventures await us?

Coming Soon to the Garden

This year will be a time of renewal at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The Garden will be closed Jan. 10 through 14 to complete numerous maintenance projects. In addition, several long-planned improvements will begin soon, including repair of the Moon Bridge in the Japanese Garden and reconstruction of Old Garden Road. We’ll have more details about these projects soon.

The Garden has also begun preparing a new Master Plan to determine the mission and vision of the Garden and plan future improvements. As a member of the Garden community, we welcome your opinions and insights. You are invited to provide comments online and/or to participate in community forums to help shape the future of the Garden.

Meanwhile, the calendar is packed with events for 2022. Butterflies in the Garden will be back in late February, bringing a dazzling display of living, fluttering jewels to the Rainforest Conservatory. In March, the Garden will explode with color as Daffodil Days and Tulip Time begin. After Hours in the Garden will return in March, with the Spring Plant Sale and the Spring Japanese Festival following in the next few months. And look for the new display David Rogers’ Big Bugs—a collection of over-sized, whimsical sculptures designed to show you insects in a whole new way.

New Opportunities in Family Education

The Education department is hard at work planning new programs for children and families in 2022. Spring Break Family Camps will be back March 16 and 17—register now to save your spot!

This summer will see the introduction of S.E.E.D. (Summer Exploration Engagement and Discovery) Camps. Campers will explore the grounds of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and Botanical Research Institute of Texas while learning about the natural world and growing into young scientists. Look for more details and opportunities to register in the next month.

All of this is in addition to our usual Girls’ Nature Workshops, Homeschool Days and Family Workshops.

None of our programs would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. If you can’t get enough of Butterflies in the Garden, if you are passionate about environmental education or if you want to contribute to botany as a citizen scientist, consider joining us. Our volunteers are the heart and hands of our organization.

We don’t know exactly what 2022 will bring, but we know flowers, sunshine and butterflies will be in the mix. It’s going to be a good year.
